About The Position

The Radiation Therapist at Danbury Hospital is responsible for administering radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by radiation oncologists. Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Radiation Therapy from an accredited ARRT program.
  • Radiographer CT State Licensure required.
  • ARRT certification required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in radiation therapy.

  • Three years minimum experience preferred.
  • Solid computer skills and efficiency in task concentration.

Responsibilities

  • Administers prescribed doses of radiation to specific body parts, ensuring accurate positioning of patients for treatment.
  • Designs and facilitates daily treatment schedules, orders, reviews, and exports daily treatment charges.
  • Observes clinical progress of patients receiving radiation and recognizes signs of treatment complications, consulting with physicians as necessary.
  • Follows department quality control measures for treatment delivery, maintaining accurate daily records of treatments administered.
  • Performs simulation procedures and constructs immobilization devices, documenting all necessary information for patient treatment charges.
  • Conducts daily quality control warm-up procedures on linear accelerators and simulators prior to patient procedures.
  • Learns and applies new advances in treatment technology, assisting other staff members and adhering to radiation protection principles.
  • Assists in follow-up clinic, patient exams, and receptionist duties, including scheduling and patient interactions.
  • Maintains patient safety at all times, ensuring safe transfers and care for patients with medical devices.
  • Practices continuing education and fulfills all state and national compliance responsibilities.
  • Communicates effectively with healthcare team members, patients, and facilities, demonstrating strong verbal and written skills.
  • Trains and supervises student or subordinate radiotherapy technologists.
  • Educates and reassures patients and their families regarding treatment reactions and post-treatment care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
