About The Position

Outpatient Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) assist in helping patients recover from injuries and regain mobility through: - Utilizing appropriate treatment tools and devices needed for patient care. - Assessing patients before, during, and after therapy sessions reporting observations to the supervising Physical Therapist (PT) as necessary. - Providing exercise prescription and assistance based on the PT’s treatment plan; guiding patients through these exercises, ensuring proper form and technique. - Utilizing various techniques, including stretching exercises, manual techniques within their scope of practice and massage, to treat patients. - Provide effective patient education and counseling and provide guidance on exercises and techniques patients can perform at home. - Use of EMR system to document treatment sessions and communicate with primary physical therapist.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience as Physical Therapy Assistant and demonstrated competence in treating all patient types as well as independence in managing a full caseload.
  • Certification/Licensure: Licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Ability to perform job functions in an upright position.

  • Ability to lift and carry 150 lbs., unassisted.
  • Ability to lift objects, up to 75 lbs., from floor level to height of 36 inches, unassisted.
  • Ability to lower objects, up to 75 lbs., from height of 36 inches to floor level, unassisted.
  • Ability to lift and carry patients weighing up to 300 lbs., assisted.
  • Ability to push/pull objects, up to 200 lbs., unassisted.
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected.
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand.
  • Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance.
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors.
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities.
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
  • Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet.
  • Must be able to maintain bi-lateral hand movement skills.
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements.
  • Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually.
  • Ability to maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.
