Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine - Board Certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency.
  • Must hold a valid Texas license to practice medicine and be registered as a physician in the State of Texas.
  • Must have an active Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) License throughout employment.
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited 3-year or 4-year residency program in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
  • Above Average Verbal Communication skills.
  • Exceptional Verbal (Public Speaking) skills.
  • Writing/Correspondence skills for reports.
  • Proficiencies in computer usage, suturing, splinting, and EKG interpretation.
  • Analytical abilities and knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality care for individuals housed in the Harris County Jail.
  • Perform intake health assessments.
  • Manage urgent care issues.
  • Identify and treat chronic care illnesses.
  • Collaborate with advanced practice practitioners.
  • Work in conjunction with Harris County Sheriff Office deputies.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff and on-site services such as radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, and laboratory services.
  • Communicate with Harris Health Transfer Center or other local hospitals if patients require a higher level of care.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
