About The Position

The PRN Pharmacist plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, appropriate, and legal dispensing of pharmaceuticals while monitoring drug therapy, maintaining inventory, and providing consultative support to medical providers, dental providers, clinic staff, and patients. This role operates in compliance with the State of Alaska Board of Pharmacy regulations and within the professional scope of practice. This PRN position offers flexible, as-needed coverage for the ANHC Pharmacy and is ideal for pharmacists seeking supplemental or flexible work opportunities with ANHC rather than a regularly scheduled role.

  • Work Experience: Minimum one year experience required. Experience working with pharmacy specific software programs preferred. For Mail Order/Medset Pharmacy, minimum one year experience in mail order and medset pharmacy operations.
  • Education, Certification and Licensure: Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy. Licensed by the Alaska State Board of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews prescriptions issued by Physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed.
  • When checking a prescription, reviews and updates patient billing information, and that allergies are up to date in our EHR, and ensures we have the product in stock.
  • Files hard copy prescriptions and daily reports according to protocol.
  • Authorizes waived copays and ensures sliding fee scale is up to date.
  • Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
  • Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
  • Enters data such as patient name, prescribed medication and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system and inventory into PioneerRX.
  • Trains contract pharmacists when applicable.
  • Completes inventory returns via our reverse wholesaler.
  • Tracks medication drop box capacity and inventory of back up cartridges.
  • Assists in oversight of pharmacy operations.
  • Acts as Pharmacist in Charge while on duty.
  • Completes the ordering of controlled substances and over the counter products.
  • Completes INRs and dosing adjustments as outlined in the INR Protocol.
  • Completes duties and services in alignment with our Collaborative Practice Agreement
  • Ensures fill on arrival medications are on order for the designated day, the medication was typed correctly, and our wholesaler can supply it.
  • Provides medication and clinical device education to patients
  • Answers incoming phone calls when technicians are unavailable
  • Administers immunizations
  • Participates in quality assurance activities of the department.
  • Oversee daily operations of the mail order and medset pharmacy
  • Ensures that mail out prescriptions arrive at their destinations in a timely manner to prevent gaps in care
  • Reports monthly mail order and medset prescriptions to the Pharmacy Director
  • Collaborates with Pharmacy Director on implemented workflow changes
  • Works with Pharmacy Director to ensure compliance with 340(b) program
  • Other duties as assigned
