The 8100 Family Practice Unit at Akron General is a high acuity, fast-paced, Neuro/Cardiac Telemetry unit with patients that require extensive ADL assistance. Caregivers in this unit care for patients with strokes, pneumonia, FTT, weakness, confusion, sepsis, PEG care, central lines, multiple antibiotic therapies, blood transfusions, IV push/cardiac drip medications and tracheostomy care. As a Nurse Technician in this unit, you will assist with direct patient care activities under the supervision of an RN. A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) varying shifts. You must work 64 hours in the summer months.

Requirements

  • Nursing student in good standing in an accredited nursing school program OR unlicensed graduate of an accredited nursing school program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross prior to hire
  • Maintain competencies specific to patient population served
  • Satisfactorily complete hospital orientation

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN.
  • Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean & orderly.
  • Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
