About The Position

The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of PRN MRI Technician. The primary purpose of this part-time, temporary position is to perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures for interpretation by veterinary radiologists using high-field MRI equipment. The position is responsible for scanning with little supervision, ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and equipment. Reviews studies for overall quality and transfer to the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS). Properly trains Medical Residents on the safety and function, principles, measurement factors, and proper positioning of patients. Communicates information promptly to radiologist and in-house staff regarding imaging progress. Sets protocols for routine projects as well as research projects. Fulfills IACUC responsibilities. The Veterinary Medical Center is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. Occasional weekend, evening, or holiday work may be required of this position.

Requirements

  • Associates degree from an American Medical Association-approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Certification in Radiology and MRI.
  • Ability to evaluate MRI request for completion and appropriate choice of imaging study.
  • Ability to evaluate appropriate positioning of patient and MRI coils.
  • Knowledge of appropriate imaging sequences, selection of correct acquisition parameters.
  • Ability to set and adjust parameters/technique for Spin Echo (single-echo, dual and multi-echo); Inversion Recovery; 2D/3D GRE; 2D/3D/Time of Flight Angiography; Phase Oversampling; Echo Sharing (Dual contrast TSE Technique; T1,T2 and PD image adjustments; swap phase; Flip angle, Presaturation Technique.
  • Knowledge of tracking Saturation bands; Fat Sat; Water/FAT Suppression; DESS/CISS/Space/Vibe/Truefisp/Haste/Diffusion-Perfusion and ADC Mapping.
  • Ability to provide Dynamic analysis Post Contrast and Non-Contrast images.
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree from an American Medical Association-approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • 2+ years of MRI Experience with 1.5 Tesla MRI or greater field strength.
  • Training on Siemens MRI.
  • MRI Registry.

Responsibilities

  • Performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures for interpretation by veterinary radiologist.
  • Provides daily organization of large and small animal procedures under general anesthesia.
  • Reviews requests submitted by clinician/radiologist for proper procedure.
  • Positions patients for exams to ensure good image quality, safety, and accessibility to vital monitoring, IV, etc.
  • Assists anesthesia nurses, residents, and faculty with intubation, IV, premeds, and proper restraint when needed.
  • Demonstrates competency in use of PACS, CIS, and RIS.
  • Archives completed studies to PACS.
  • Scans and reviews data on disk
  • Performs pertinent reconstructions (e.g. MPR,MIP,SSD).
  • Prints film and burns CDs of completed studies as needed
  • Inputs proper charges for completed procedures.
  • Performs daily quality assurance and calibration on VIS equipment (MRI and CT).
  • Notifies service engineers if any errors occur
  • Notifies CVM population of any unavailability of equipment.
  • Instructs radiology residents on function, parameters, positioning, and protocol of different MRI procedures to ensure they are able to run scanner, if needed.
  • Assists with performing a wide array of radiographic procedures in radiology, if needed.
