About The Position

IU Health is seeking a PRN Medication Reconciliation Pharmacy Technician II for West Hospital in Avon, IN. This role involves supporting the pharmacy department under pharmacist supervision in areas such as inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, and processing of medications and supplies, including specialty medications and medication histories. The technician will assist with all functions required for medication processing, including answering telephones, taking refill orders, entering orders into the system, preparing medications for pharmacist check, and preparing them for disbursement, shipment, or delivery. Key duties also include handling, stocking, maintaining inventory, delivering, and distributing supplies, as well as maintaining records. The position may also involve assisting in bulk compounding and preparation of I.V. solutions. The technician will work with pharmacy staff to minimize medication errors, exercise sound judgment, anticipate issues, and apply standard policies and procedures to find solutions or escalate problems. This position requires a minimum of 16 hours of work per month on a rotating shift basis.

Requirements

  • Active IN Pharmacy Technician license OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician National Certification required unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
  • Strong mathematical calculation skills.
  • Working knowledge and skills as a pharmacy technician in assigned areas and ability to work within established procedures under moderate supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency typing and using Microsoft Office applications.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the pharmacy department in one or more of the following areas: inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty medications, and medication histories.
  • Assist with all functions required for medication processing including answering telephones, taking refill orders, entering orders into system, preparing the medication for pharmacist check, preparing medications for disbursement/shipment/delivery.
  • Handle supplies, stock prepackaged items, maintain inventory, deliver supplies, maintain records, distribute supplies.
  • Assist in bulk compounding and preparation of I.V. solutions.
  • Work with pharmacy staff to minimize the potential for medication errors.
  • Exercise sound judgement, anticipate potential issues and challenges in common situations.
  • Apply standard policies and procedures to determine solutions or escalation.
