About The Position

The PRN Speech Language Therapist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is responsible for providing comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative services for patients with speech-language and swallowing disorders. This role involves evaluating patients, developing therapy plans, and implementing appropriate interventions in accordance with established standards and regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
• SP-L - Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in the District of Columbia.
• BLS (Basic Life Support).
• 1-2 years related clinical practice experience in an acute care or rehabilitation facility preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct speech, language, and swallowing evaluations and re-evaluations, including assessment of prior and current level of functioning, setting appropriate goals and making appropriate discharge recommendations.
• Provides direct SLP treatments according to standards of practice, including patient and family education, progression of treatment plan and implementation of appropriate therapeutic interventions.
• Utilizes appropriate documentation forms and abides by PM&R's documentation standards.
• Coordinates and prioritizes own schedule in relation to demands of patient treatment and other departmental responsibilities.
• Demonstrates proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
• Collaborates with physicians, patients, family and other members of health care team relative to patient treatment and progress as well as other affiliated agencies with regard to effective discharge planning.
• Maintains CEUs per state requirements for continued professional competency.
• Adheres to all Department of Health and Joint Commission regulations with regards to the physical environment and patient care.
