The PRN Float Registered Nurse will timely and accurately assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patients, contact practitioners for orders, administer prescribed medication and treatments, and provide emergency first aid care. Responsibilities also include checking and recording vital signs and other diagnostic tests, triaging patients, collecting data for statistical reporting, and recording information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents. The nurse will report reactions to treatments and medications, provide patient education, and record care information concisely and accurately. They will collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services, maintain aseptic techniques and infection control, and demonstrate working knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutic diets, nutrition, and social/behavioral sciences as applied to a correctional institutional setting. The role involves recommending improved procedures, notifying supervisors of incidents, participating in in-service education, and performing duties within the scope of practice mandated by state and local standards, including maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices. The nurse will also oversee and delegate duties as allowed under the RN scope of practice, and may be directed to cover shifts at multiple correctional facilities, act as a back-up to the H.S.A/Site Manager, and train new hires and coworkers.
