About The Position

The Expressive Activity Therapist is administratively and clinically responsible for providing recreational and expressive therapy activities for adolescents and adults ranging from ages 5 to 65+. This role involves assuming delegated responsibility as a liaison to treatment teams, requiring in-depth knowledge in assessment and prescription of Expressive Therapy programs tailored to individual patient needs. The Psychiatric Institute of Washington, a 130-bed facility, offers inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospitalization programs, focusing on excellence in behavioral health for children, adolescents, and adults. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field required; Master's degree in Recreational Therapy preferred.
• Current certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
• Eligible for (or possess) current license in District of Columbia.
• One year of experience as a Recreational Therapist.

Responsibilities

• Provide recreational and expressive therapy activities for patients aged 5-65+.
• Act as a liaison to treatment teams, demonstrating knowledge in assessment and prescription of therapy programs.
• Establish and maintain empathetic therapeutic relationships with patients.
• Assess and document patient progress during treatment.
• Communicate clinical input as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Function as a Handle With Care team member.
