As an Exercise Physiologist, you will develop exercise prescriptions and oversee exercise progression in patients with cardiovascular diseases in a rehabilitative setting. A PRN caregiver in this position works varying as needed shifts, up to 36 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in an exercise-related field
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and ability to help patients stand and walk.
  • Will require some lifting, bending, twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients.
  • Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance.
  • Provide exercise prescriptions for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen.
  • Update exercise prescriptions according to patient response.
  • Implement concepts of cardiac secondary prevention.
  • Recognize contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise.
  • Appropriately respond to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
  • Provide exercise information to patients, peers and the community through public speaking and education classes.
