About The Position

As a PRN Public Health Dental Hygienist, you will support the Floss and Gloss in-school dental program by providing preventive oral health services to students in grades K–12. Working alongside the Dental Mobile Unit team, you will perform clinical hygiene services, support dental education efforts, and help children establish lifelong oral health habits. This is a flexible, PRN, hourly role ideal for dental hygienists seeking meaningful part-time work, mission-driven public health experience, and opportunities to impact their community on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited two-year dental hygiene program.
  • Current Kentucky dental hygiene license in good standing.
  • Public Health RDH certification (may be obtained within 2 months of hire).
  • Current CPR certification (or must obtain by end of probationary period and maintain thereafter).
  • Strong clinical skills in preventive dentistry and sealant placement.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with children and families.
  • Commitment to infection control and public health best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide preventive services including cleanings, fluoride varnish applications, sealant placement, and application of medicaments as directed by the supervising dentist.
  • Record dental findings and chart conditions for diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Educate and motivate students on oral hygiene practices, nutrition, and preventive care.
  • Review patient health histories for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain accurate patient records in compliance with PDHD protocols.
  • Follow infection control and sterilization procedures for instruments and equipment.
  • Collaborate with the supervising dentist, hygienist team, and school staff to identify students in need of care.
  • Participate in school events, outreach programs, and oral health education activities.
  • Provide dietary counseling and individualized home-care instructions.
  • Assist with community engagement efforts related to oral health promotion.
