About The Position

Greenberg Traurig (GT), a global law firm, has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a highly skilled Associate in the Private Wealth Services Practice of our Austin office. We are seeking a senior-level associate (with a minimum of four to eight years of experience) with a proven track record in sophisticated estate planning for high-net-worth individuals and families, trust and estate administration, and gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning. Exceptional mid-level candidates with strong credentials and demonstrated leadership ability will also be considered. This is a hands-on role for someone ready to hit the ground running in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Greenberg Traurig’s Private Wealth Services Department is dedicated to guiding individuals and families through the complexities of wealth transfer and estate planning. Our attorneys deliver comprehensive, integrated advice on income and transfer tax matters, always considering current and anticipated changes in tax and state laws that may impact our clients’ plans. With deep experience in structuring sophisticated estate plans—including business interests, real estate, and advanced wealth transfer techniques—GT attorneys collaborate closely with clients to develop tailored strategies that preserve, protect, and maximize their legacies. Leveraging a robust national and international platform, we provide personalized solutions and seamless counsel in the locations most convenient for our clients.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four to eight years of experience
  • Proven track record in sophisticated estate planning for high-net-worth individuals and families, trust and estate administration, and gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning.
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and able to supervise and mentor other associates and paralegals, while managing multiple complex matters.
  • Excellent academic and working credentials, strong research, writing and verbal communication skills and a background practicing trusts and estates in a law firm setting.
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced law firm setting
  • In good standing with the Texas Bar, or eligible for admission to the Texas Bar.
  • Ranked in the top of their law school class or graduated from a top-tier law school.

Nice To Haves

  • LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning (strongly preferred, though not required if the candidate otherwise has a solid trusts and estates background).

Responsibilities

  • Designing and drafting complex estate planning documents, including revocable trust agreements, ILITs, SLATs, IDGTs, GRATs, and related wealth transfer structures.
  • Transferring QSBS stock, business interests, and real estate, including addressing the complexities of entity structures, valuation, succession planning, and tax implications.
  • Managing and overseeing complex trust and estate administrations, including trust modifications, decantings, mergers, nonjudicial settlement agreements, and trust terminations.
  • Conducting sophisticated legal research and analysis involving multijurisdictional and occasionally cross-border estate planning considerations.
