About The Position

As a Private Swim Instructor, you’ll have the opportunity to create a positive impact, build life-saving skills, and share the joy of swimming with students. If you're energetic, caring, and ready to lead lessons in and around the pool, we’d love to have you on board! POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, a Private Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons in a safe and caring manner. Instructors teach according to the established curriculum so that participants can feel safe in the water and have an overall positive experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum 17 years of age.
  • Previous experience working with children and/or adults with special needs required.
  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification is preferred.
  • Ability to understand and motivate people.

  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strives to provide participants with the skills to keep themselves safe around water and build their confidence and stamina in the water.
  • Prepares and carries out daily lesson plans according to established class requirements.
  • Keeps accurate records on progress of individual students and make decisions on appropriate class levels.
  • Teaches in the water every lesson and never turns back to the individual or leaves the individual unattended.
  • Enforces specific safety rules and regulations to prevent risks to participants.
  • Reports to pool area a minimum of 5 minutes before scheduled lessons.
  • Completes and submits progress reports and midsession reports to the Aquatics Director.
  • Presents materials that are challenging yet appropriate for every participant and level.
  • Sets out necessary equipment needed for class and puts equipment away after class.
  • Records daily class attendance roster and communicates with parents/guardians about child’s progress in class when needed.
  • Secures a qualified substitute for replacement when unable to teach a class and notifies Aquatics Director well in advance, if possible.
  • Teach adaptive swim lessons, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
