A Private Practice Therapist provides mental health services to individuals, couples, and families in a private practice setting. They work independently, offering counseling and therapeutic interventions to help clients address and overcome various emotional, behavioral, and psychological challenges.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work preferred.
  • Must be independently licensed and in good standing as an LPC, LCSW, or LMFT.
  • A thorough knowledge of The Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, DHS, State Regulations, and Federal Regulatory Standards.
  • Complete TB testing, Drug Screening, and a Background check upon being hired.
  • Knowledge of Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Strong understanding of mental health issues, treatment modalities, and healthcare systems.
  • Ability to analyze situations, evaluate data, and recommend/implement courses of action that would improve the functioning of systems/processes they are involved in.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to use good judgment and keep information confidential.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks associated with facility operation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and crisis management skills.
  • Commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to reach above and below the waist, turn, twist, and manipulate small tools (copier, computer, telephone, typewriter, calculator, safe, facsimile machine).
  • Ability to see well enough to read handwritten and typewritten material.
  • Ability to handle various repetitive tasks at a moderate level.
  • Available to work varied hours (i.e., evenings and weekends), may be on call as needed.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks under deadlines and with short notice

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in substance use is preferred but not required.
  • Two years of experience in private practice setting preferred.
  • Will accept provisionally licensed associates.

Responsibilities

  • Client Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments to understand clients' mental health concerns, emotional well-being, and relevant history.
  • Identify and diagnose mental health disorders using appropriate assessment tools and diagnostic criteria.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop personalized treatment plans based on the assessment and diagnosis.
  • Collaborate with clients to set realistic goals and establish a roadmap for therapy.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychoanalysis, mindfulness, or other modalities tailored to the client's needs.
  • Foster a safe and supportive therapeutic environment for clients to explore and process their emotions.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond effectively to crises and provide immediate support when necessary.
  • Collaborate with emergency services or other professionals as needed to ensure client safety.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential client records, documenting sessions, progress, and any changes in treatment plans.
  • Adhere to legal and ethical standards regarding client confidentiality and record-keeping.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with the latest developments in the field of psychology and therapy.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, or training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Ethical Practices: Adhere to ethical guidelines and standards established by professional associations and licensing boards.
  • Ensure that all therapeutic practices comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Client Education: Educate clients about mental health issues, effective coping strategies, and available resources to support their overall well-being.
  • Promote self-awareness and empower clients to take an active role in their mental health.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as psychiatrists or psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners, to provide comprehensive care as needed.
  • Coordinate care and share relevant information with the client's consent.
  • Business Management: Partner with the Clinical Director to ensure availability is kept up to date.
  • Maintain a welcoming and professional office environment.
