About The Position

The Prison Officer Returners Scheme is designed for former prison officers or youth justice workers who have left the HMPPS within the last 5 years and completed their foundation training and probation. This scheme allows eligible candidates to return to their roles without the need to repeat online tests or assessments. Candidates will be allocated to vacancies as they become available and must undergo medical and fitness assessments as part of the application process. The role requires a commitment to maintaining safety in prisons and supporting colleagues.

Requirements

  • Must have left HMPPS within the last 5 years.
  • Previously worked as a prison officer at band 3, 4, or 5.
  • Completed foundation training and full probation period.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Meet Civil Service Nationality requirements.
  • Pass a medical and fitness assessment.
  • Meet required eyesight and hearing standards.

  • Experience working in a high-security prison.
  • Previous experience in youth justice roles.
