The Printing Press Operator is responsible for preparing, setting up, and operating the printing press. This role involves reviewing job orders to determine specifications, performing quality checks, and maintaining the equipment to ensure optimal performance and product quality.

  • Review job orders to determine special printing instructions, stock specifications, colors, and quantities to be printed.
  • Pick up web roll, cylinders, and ink for startup preparation.
  • Fill ink fountains and check specified viscosity, adding ink or solvent as needed.
  • Load web roll and paper core, thread through the machine, load and polish cylinders, and install doctor blade onto the press.
  • Input specific parameters into the machine control panel.
  • Start presses, check registration using a strobe scope, and manually adjust as needed.
  • Cut samples and take them to the quality lab for Gas Chromatography tests periodically.
  • Cut samples for color matching using a spectrophotometer and visually compare the target sample to the actual sample, adding ink or solvent as needed.
  • Start production and BST inspection machine, monitor the process visually, respond to camera alerts, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Perform quality checks by cutting samples, measuring printing pitch, and conducting other required tests.
  • Inspect rolls for alignment, unload printed web rolls, clean and unload cylinders, and clean ink carts and the machine area for the next setup.
  • Return remaining ink to the mix room.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance on the press and other equipment using hand tools, changing or replacing parts as necessary before the next run.
  • Complete production lot reports and shift reports.
  • Maintain the 7S standard during the shift.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Experience with repair, production, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and machine operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with printing presses.
  • General labor skills.
  • Experience with adhesive mixing and viscosity checking.
  • Ability to perform dyne level tests on films.
  • Experience with quality checks for thickness, print pitch, and lamination strength.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance on press equipment.
