About The Position

We are looking for a Hardware Engineer III with deep expertise in embedded systems hardware design to lead development on our flagship automotive IoT platform. In this role, you will drive the architecture, design, and validation of rugged, high-performance hardware used in demanding real-world applications-from commercial fleets to municipal infrastructure. The role offers direct ownership of critical hardware used across large-scale deployments, opportunity to shape architecture decisions and mentor engineering talent, and work in a collaborative, agile environment bridging hardware, AI, and connected systems. This is a hands-on senior engineering role that spans electronic design, system integration, manufacturing and field support. You will also mentor junior engineers, influence product strategy, and work closely with firmware, mechanical, and operations teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineer, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of embedded systems experience, with significant time in automotive, industrial IoT, or ruggedized hardware environments.
  • Proven track record of leading teams and delivering complex hardware and firmware products to market.
  • Deep knowledge of Linux (Buildroot/Yocto), microcontroller firmware (STM32 or similar), CAN/J1939, GNSS, LTE, and camera interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of security, reliability, and safety standards for automotive/industrial applications.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence engineering, operations, and executive teams.
  • Understanding of Autonomous vehicles and semi-autonomous vehicles architecture and working with vendors to integrate our system.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer or similar EDA tools.
  • Knowledge with SolidWorks or similar MCAD tools.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, mathematical (statistical) skills, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfort working under limited supervision and handling routine matters on your own initiative.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the design and manufacturing of board level hardware for Digital Camera, DVR, Monitors products.
  • Ability to drive our roadmap for sensor fusion for sensors like cameras, radar, lidar and high-speed connectivity and real time edge computing.
  • Telematic and Controller Area Network (CAN) knowledge (J1939/OBD-II) is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of a programming language such as Python to aid in automation is a plus.
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define system architecture for ruggedized IoT devices integrating CAN/J1939, GNSS, IMU, cameras, and other automotive-grade sensors.
  • Oversee embedded Linux and STM32 microcontroller firmware development, including device drivers, communication protocols, and OTA update strategy.
  • Lead hardware design reviews, component selection, and qualification for automotive and heavy-duty environments (9-32V, IP-rated enclosures, etc.).
  • Ensure security and compliance for edge-to-cloud data flows (VPN, TLS, SOC2 considerations).
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers across hardware, firmware, and test disciplines.
  • Provide technical direction, performance coaching, and career development to build a high-performing, cross-functional team.
  • Drive the full product lifecycle: requirements definition, design, prototyping, validation, and production release.
  • Coordinate with cloud, field engineering, AI/vision, and product management teams to align device capabilities with business goals.
  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices for documentation, code quality, and design for manufacturability.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface for internal stakeholders, external vendors, and strategic partners.
  • Present design trade-offs, risk assessments, and project status to executive leadership.
  • Architect and design ECAD and MCAD solutions according to customers’ needs.
  • Design multilayer PCBs with high-speed digital, analog, and RF components (e.g. LTE, GNSS, Ethernet, CAN, USB).
  • Validate designs through schematic review, layout verification, and lab bring-up.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and industrial product teams to ensure environmental robustness (IP67+, vibration, thermal).
  • Design and support custom test fixtures for board-level and system-level validation.

Benefits

  • Competitive salaries
  • Advancement opportunities
  • Paid vacation
  • 401(k)
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
