About The Position

The Principle IP Patent Specialist/Counsel will be responsible for providing critical IP law support to the ContiTech Group in the Americas region. This pivotal role encompasses the following essential responsibilities: Independently draft and file patent applications with the USPTO, including the preparation of comprehensive responses to office actions and other requisite submissions. Oversee patent prosecution in international jurisdictions, collaborating with internal and external national patent attorneys worldwide to ensure global IP protection. Provide expert counsel to the ContiTech Group in the Americas region on all aspects of industrial property protection, with particular emphasis on navigating third-party property rights through rigorous "Freedom To Operate" analyses. Contribute vital IP expertise to strategic development projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and compliance with intellectual property laws. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute significantly to the organization's intellectual property strategy and maintain the highest standards of professional conduct in all aspects of their work.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, with a strong focus on polymer chemistry
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive professional experience in intellectual property law, particularly in the field of chemistry
  • Active license to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English; working knowledge of German or another relevant language is highly advantageous
  • Proven track record of effective teamwork and exceptional sense of responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to make critical decisions and assert professional opinions in high-stakes environments
  • In-depth understanding of polymer chemistry and its applications in industrial contexts
  • Exceptional analytical skills for conducting thorough patent searches and "Freedom to Operate" analyses
  • Proficiency in drafting complex patent applications and responding to office actions
  • Strong project management skills to oversee international patent prosecutions.
