About The Position

At National Heritage Academies (NHA), the Virtual School Principal serves as the lead administrator of our North Carolina online college preparatory K–12 school, overseeing instruction, staff, and operations. This role ensures a safe, engaging virtual learning environment aligned with the school’s mission and curriculum. The Principal supports teachers in delivering effective online instruction, monitors student progress through data systems, and fosters strong communication with families.

Requirements

  • College diploma (BA or equivalent) or higher in Education or related field.
  • School Administrator Licensure/Certificate in states where this is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years principal experience working with a K-8/K-12 diverse student population.
  • Demonstrate achievements in student proficiency and growth that can be linked to his/her leadership (principal) and intervention.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and virtual learning.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to see complex projects through from start to finish.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee online instruction: Ensure effective curriculum delivery through digital platforms (e.g., Canvas LMS, Google Classroom).
  • Support teachers: Coach instructors on virtual teaching strategies, engagement, and classroom management.
  • Monitor student performance: Use data tools to track attendance, participation, and academic progress.
  • Maintain school culture: Foster a strong virtual community through consistent communication and engagement activities.
  • Manage operations: Oversee scheduling, staffing, compliance, and technology integration.
  • Communicate with families: Keep parents informed through digital platforms, email, and virtual meetings.
  • Promote high expectations for academic performance and student behavior.
  • Supervise instructional programs, evaluate teaching, and support staff development.
  • Develop and manage the master schedule to support instructional goals.
  • Ensure effective attendance and discipline systems.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive virtual learning environment.
  • Lead ongoing professional development in collaboration with leadership staff.
  • Communicate regularly with staff and encourage collaboration and school improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports; present updates to leadership/board as required.
  • Model professionalism and ethical behavior for staff and students.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
