About The Position

SHPS is seeking a dedicated, motivated professional to serve as the Principal. The Principal is the leader for his or her school, coaching and inspiring teachers to reach and teach every child, collaborating with parents and families, and working with communities to make the school successful. All candidates for this position must hold the belief that all children can succeed academically and socially and this belief must drive him or her to be relentless in his or her work. The Principal reports to the Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Teaching Credential
  • Proven leadership skills and experience supervising and evaluating the performance of assigned staff
  • Knowledge of exemplary teaching and the capacity to distinguish among poor, mediocre, solid and outstanding teaching
  • Exceptional availability to manage people and complex projects
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem solving capabilities
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, and policies governing SHPS and the ability to apply them with good judgement

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Education and/or Administrative Credential
  • Bilingual speaking, reading, and writing abilities (Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates development and alignment of standards-based college-preparatory curriculum
  • Designs and implements team-wide instructional framework and expectations
  • Plans and delivers engaging, effective professional development
  • Observes, coaches, and gives clear, actionable and individualized feedback to teachers and staff as assigned
  • Oversees the administration of multiple forms of assessments to measure and improve teaching and learning on a daily basis
  • Supports the team in using student performance data to drive all aspects of the teaching and school program
  • Provides intensive intervention for struggling teachers
  • Establishes, articulates and teaches the vision, mission and values of the organization and the school site
  • Builds and maintains school and team culture
  • Clarifies roles, accountability, and decision making among team members
  • Promotes collaboration and encourages team members to cooperate and coordinate efforts
  • Models and encourages others to proactively solve problems and manage conflict openly and productively
  • Prioritizes team morale and productivity and celebrates team accomplishments
  • Evaluates performance of self and direct reports regularly, ensures direct reports do the same
  • Selects and retains a highly effective staff
  • Manages resources (people, financial, equipment) effectively to support the school's short and long term goals

  • Lead point of contact for families responsible for ensuring families are well communicated with, are invested in our school program and that concerns or complaints are dealt with in a quick, effective manner
  • Has a clear vision of high expectations for scholar behavior
  • Manages the Front Office and the Dean’s Office persons, procedures and overall effectiveness.
  • Identifies target students, defines support plans as well as systems of accountability to ensure all scholars are held to high expectations
  • Plans and executes Orientations, Back To School Nights, Open Houses and one annual joyful event a year
  • Oversees quarterly grade level incentives
  • Responsible for bringing variety to the school program through systems such as partnerships, electives, student clubs, etc so that all scholars have the ability to feel connected to a part of the school day
  • Coordinates and manages student recruitment and retention
  • Ensures school average daily attendance (ADA) is meeting minimum goals
  • Designs and implements master schedule
  • Models the school’s values and sets the standard for professional behavior
  • Builds a professional work environment that is typified by hard work, respect and collaboration and includes a system of constant feedback, reflection and action
  • Works relentlessly with a Whatever-It-Takes to ensure school-wide goals are met
