About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Principal Transportation Engineer to join the team in Atlanta, Georgia. The candidate will assist our team in designing, implementing, and evaluating traffic signal timing and operations through the application of traffic analysis and modeling software and evaluation of probe and enumerated data. The candidate will need to be able to integrate multiple sources of data, state and local guidelines, and roadway context to deliver operations improvements for all modes of travel. The candidate should have experience in implementation, configuration, and integration of Advanced Transportation Management Systems (ATMS) including Adaptive Signal Control Technology (ASCT), with a focus on traffic signal management and operations, signal timing design and optimization, and the ability to perform routine traffic engineering tasks including but not limited to traffic analysis, traffic signal timing and operational design, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) planning and design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an appropriate area of engineering.
  • 15+ years of relevant work experience in engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Q-Free Signal Software and Firmware (Kinetic Signals, MaxTime, and MaxView) and Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS).
  • Master's degree or equivalent in an appropriate area of engineering.
  • Georgia Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of traffic signal operation on arterials and networks, specification of applicable data collection, development of new signal timing parameters based on detailed analysis, inputting traffic signal plans via central control systems and/or directly into local controllers, and design and analysis of traffic surveys to evaluate signal timing effectiveness.
  • Capable of applying data and analytics (e.g. Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM), Regional Integrated Transportation Information System (RITIS) to assess conditions and formulate traffic engineering solutions.
  • Proficient in traffic analysis and modeling software including Highway Capacity Software, Synchro, and VISSIM and incorporation of the outcome of this analysis in traffic studies and technical reports. Experience with VISTRO, Paramics, Transmodeler and SIDRA is a plus.
  • Develop documents including project scopes, specifications, schedules, start-up procedures, and cost estimates to support business development and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with clients and internal technical teams on increasingly complex and technical issues verbally and in the form of reports and presentations.
