About The Position

The Principal Telematics Engineer will play a crucial role in the Data & Analytics department, focusing on the development and execution of technical capabilities within the engineering team. This position is responsible for building the architecture, systems, data pipelines, and technologies necessary for a top-tier telematics data ecosystem, supporting the motor portfolio strategy across various teams including Technical Underwriting, Data Science, and Technology.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics/Statistics and 7+ years of experience, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 7+ years of experience, or High School Diploma with 9+ years of experience.
• 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, or Business Intelligence, especially in growth stages.
• 3+ years of management experience leading data teams.
• Expert knowledge in Azure analytics and databases (SQL DB, Databricks, ADF, etc.).
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, and PySpark.
• Experience in automated CI/CD environments and agile software engineering.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code implementations on cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
• Ability to develop architecture solution diagrams for stakeholders.
• Experience with telematics data structures and integrating sensor-driven data with traditional insurance data.
• Strong understanding of telematics systems, IoT devices, and data collection methodologies.
• Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.

Nice To Haves

• Master's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Statistics.
• Relevant certifications in data engineering, cloud platforms, or insurance-related courses.
• Familiarity with Geo-Spatial Libraries and Geo Fencing logic.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable data pipelines to ingest, store and process large amounts of telematics data into the cloud-based Data Lake.
• Implement strategies to leverage telematics data alongside other internal and external data for key business decisions.
• Collaborate with Business Unit analysts to create self-service experiences in the data democratization platform.
• Work with various teams to deliver motor portfolio data analytics technical solutions, including data orchestration, governance, and analysis.
• Analyze telematics datasets to derive insights on driver and fleet behavior.
• Troubleshoot data quality issues with telematics data aggregators and assess impacts on downstream modeling.
• Monitor business initiatives against key performance indicators and communicate results to management.
• Innovate methods for combining data sets from various sources to enhance analytical capabilities.
• Design KPIs and visualizations to aid business decision-making.
• Develop methods for acquiring external data to enhance analytics data repositories.
