One Material Handling System (OMHS) is building Amazon's in-house material handling capabilities, transforming how Amazon designs, builds, and operates its facilities. As Amazon's internal material handling system integrator, we combine precision in technical project management with the vision needed to revolutionize our material handling capabilities. We are seeking a talented and motivated Principal Technical Infrastructure Program Manager who will exemplify ownership of their assigned material handling projects, ensuring successful implementation across Amazon's network. Our P-TIPM works closely with WWDE, Operations Engineering, strategic suppliers, and cross-functional teams to deliver complex material handling systems. This role requires both strategic vision and tactical execution to standardize project delivery while maintaining the high standards that complex material handling systems demand. You will drive projects through our comprehensive Project Lifecycle Framework, from initiation through commissioning and handover, while helping establish the processes and playbooks that will enable OMHS to scale across Amazon's network.

  • Drive the execution strategy for material handling system implementations in partnership with WWDE, Operations Engineering, and strategic suppliers.
  • Serve as the single-threaded leader between engineering teams, operations, and implementation partners.
  • Lead cross-functional communications and strategic planning for material handling system deployment, determine KPIs, and drive standardization initiatives.
  • Create mechanisms and processes that increase velocity while maintaining quality.
  • Assist in the development of the Project Lifecycle Framework and implementation playbooks.
  • Build relationships with Amazon development and operations teams and with senior leaders.
  • Drive technical integration strategy and execution for complex material handling systems.
  • Lead end-to-end system implementation programs spanning mechanical engineering, controls integration, power systems, and operational requirements.
  • Customize and execute standardized technical deployment methodologies and integration playbooks.
  • Execute complex material handling projects through all lifecycle phases while ensuring technical requirements, performance standards, and operational metrics are met.
  • Coordinate between specialized engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, controls) and maintain ownership for system integration approaches.
  • Drive continuous improvement in technical integration methods, system performance standards, and commissioning procedures.
  • Manage technical partnerships with OEMs and 3P engineering firms to ensure optimal system design and integration.
  • Leverage technical knowledge management systems and engineering documentation standards for material handling implementations.
  • Maintain alignment between engineering teams, operations stakeholders, and external partners on technical requirements and system specifications.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks in system design, integration approach, and operational implementation.
  • Define technical standards and best practices for material handling system implementations.
  • Experience providing technical leadership on high-impact cross-functional technical projects.
  • Experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines.
  • 10+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 15+ years experience, preferably in design, specification, project management and execution of large-scale complex material handling systems, or domain expertise in industrial, mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering; industrial or construction management.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience with material handling equipment integration and systems.
  • Experience with conveyor control systems and automation.
  • Experience with cross-belt sorters and complex material handling systems.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification.
  • Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience working with material handling OEMs and integration partners.
  • Track record of establishing standardized processes and playbooks.
  • Experience scaling technical project delivery organizations.
  • Medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
  • Equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
