About The Position

The Principal Technical Designer at NIKE, Inc. is responsible for leading the product pattern-making, fit, and commercialization process for various apparel lines. This role focuses on creating and validating Blocks and Chassis, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with consumer needs and technical standards. The designer will utilize advanced tools and processes to enhance product development and support the overall mission of inspiring athletes through innovative apparel design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Tailoring, or Pattern Making and 8 years of post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a design-related occupation.
  • Experience in Apparel Fit, Apparel Size & Grade Standardization, Production Pattern Making expertise, and Apparel Technical Construction.
  • Proficiency in pattern software such as Gerber, Lectra, or Optitex.
  • Experience with alternative construction machinery (seam-sealing, die-cut, heat press, etc.) and Apparel Specification Management.
  • 5 years of experience with Clo 3D (3D apparel software) and 3D tool operations and workflow.
  • Alternatively, 10 years of experience in the job offered or a Technical Designer-related occupation without a degree.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Nike product pattern-making, fit, and the product commercialization process from start to finish.
  • Focus on Block & Chassis creation for Nike across multiple apparel lines or sports.
  • Partner with the Digital Innovation team to establish standards & processes regarding size & fit.
  • Collaborate across key functional partners to validate new consumer and athlete Blocks and Chassis.
  • Build specifications, libraries, and tools in support of Fit and Construction Standards for Apparel.
  • Ensure project concepts align with Gender & Sport Dimensional initiatives.
  • Create and validate physical Blocks and Chassis, and build virtual versions using 3D tools (Clo).
  • Partner with Design, GLAM, PM, PCC/Development, and Operations partners to deliver validated Blocks and Chassis on advanced timelines.
  • Implement new Fit or Grade standards based on new Consumer or Athlete data.
  • Provide technical recommendations and support to the Dimensional Technical Design and Product Development community.
