About The Position

Lead the Future of Environmental Risk Management Are you a seasoned leader ready to influence critical decisions in the oil and gas sector while safeguarding some of the most sensitive ecosystems in North America? At ERM , we’re looking for a Principal Technical Consultant, Environmental Toxicologist and Ecological Risk Assessor who can combine scientific expertise with strategic vision—driving complex ecological risk assessments that shape industry standards and protect Gulf Coast wetland habitats. This role can be based in Baton Rouge, LA; New Orleans, LA; Houston, TX; Austin, TX; or Dallas, TX , depending on your qualifications and preference. What Your Impact Is As a Principal Technical Consultant, you will: Drive expert ecological risk assessments for complex oil and gas exploration sites. Lead biological field investigations and design innovative solutions for environmental challenges. Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, regulators, and stakeholders, ensuring compliance and excellence. Mentor and develop the next generation of environmental professionals.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in toxicology, environmental toxicology, chemistry, ecology, or related life science discipline. Or equivalent experience.
  • 6–8 years of relevant experience (10+ years preferred), ideally in consulting.
  • Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in managing/analyzing large datasets using MS Excel.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to Health & Safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Write, manage, and deliver ecological risk assessments for oil and gas projects.
  • Design and implement biological field investigations in Gulf Coast wetland habitats.
  • Research toxicities and physical/chemical properties of oil and gas constituents; develop site-specific risk assessment methods.
  • Produce expert reports, technical papers, and field investigation plans for clients.
  • Collaborate with senior-level staff to achieve client goals and maintain quality, budget, and schedule expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Communicate daily with clients, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors.
  • Train and mentor junior environmental staff.
