Principal Systems Performance Engineer – Modeling

Micron TechnologyLongmont, CO

About The Position

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all. Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever. We are the Data Center Workload Engineering team, where we connect real-world data center workloads to future memory and storage innovation. We work hands-on across systems, software, and hardware to understand how modern workloads truly behave at scale—and to shape Micron products that power the world’s most demanding infrastructure. If you enjoy turning complex systems data into clear architectural insight, you’ll feel right at home here. As a Principal Systems Performance Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping how Micron’s SSD and memory products perform in hyperscale data centers. This is a senior individual contributor role for an engineer who enjoys building robust modeling tools, working directly with server platforms, and influencing product and architecture decisions with data-driven analysis. Your work will directly inform product roadmaps, system design trade-offs, and customer-facing performance positioning for AI, analytics, and next-generation workloads.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of industry experience in systems performance, architecture, or workload engineering
  • Strong hands-on software development experience in Python, C/C++, or similar languages
  • Direct experience working with server hardware and data center platforms
  • Proven experience building performance and/or power models using empirical measurement data

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant technical field
  • Experience working at or with hyperscale data center operators
  • Background in SSD or DRAM product engineering or performance characterization
  • Experience with power modeling at the server, rack, or facility level
  • Familiarity with QEMU, PCIe/DMA and memory systems, and transaction-level simulators such as SST or Simics

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain system- and data center–scale performance and power models for Micron SSD and DRAM products
  • Build reusable software tools and analysis frameworks that integrate benchmark data, workload traces, and field telemetry
  • Analyze AI training, inference, and data-intensive workloads to identify bottlenecks and optimization opportunities across compute, memory, storage, and interconnects
  • Evaluate current and emerging server and data center architectures, including CPUs, GPUs, DDR5, HBM, CXL, NVMe, and network fabrics
  • Translate modeling results into clear architectural trade-offs and recommendations for engineering, product, and business stakeholders

Benefits

  • Additional compensation may include benefits, bonuses and equity.
  • Micron benefits are designed to help you stay well, provide peace of mind and help you prepare for the future.
  • We offer a choice of medical, dental and vision plans in all locations enabling team members to select the plans that best meet their family healthcare needs and budget.
  • Micron also provides benefit programs that help protect your income if you are unable to work due to illness or injury, and paid family leave.
  • Additionally, Micron benefits include a robust paid time-off program and paid holidays.
