Collins is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to work within the dynamic Simulation and Training Solutions (STS) business area. STS develops and builds simulators and training systems for both military and commercial customers, with the primary focus being the defense industry. STS Training Device products cover a range of complexity that include desktop trainers, part task trainers, full-flight simulators, sophisticated maintenance training devices, high fidelity weapon system trainers and virtual reality training devices. The Principal Systems Engineer is a technical lead who will work with stakeholders to understand training needs, define System Architecture, perform Requirements Definition, Requirements Management, Design Analysis and Documentation, Cost Estimation, and Verification / Validation of training devices. This position provides multiple avenues of career advancement in Systems Engineering and Test Engineering roles. System Engineering roles require an outgoing individual with a collaborative spirit, strong teamwork skills, a curious nature, good critical thinking skills. This position requires someone who is well organized with good attention to detail. Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must. The ideal candidate will have experience developing complex, integrated, and multi-disciplinary systems. A successful candidate will have the desire to embrace a challenge with a results-oriented team of Systems, Hardware and Software Engineers.

  • Collaborate with customers and Chief Engineers to understand training needs, contribute to product roadmaps, and guide the engineering team to realize training capabilities.
  • Perform architecture analysis, decompose requirements, and support Working Groups with customers to define system & sub-system level training system requirements.
  • Apply MBSE methodologies to support the development cycle using Cameo Systems Modeler.
  • Support technical interchange meetings with customers, end users, platform OEM engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Work with aircraft equipment OEM engineers to identify and request data in support of simulated aircraft systems development efforts.
  • Provide Design Team guidance and assist with interpretation of requirements.
  • Support Integration planning and provide oversight during integration.
  • Assist Test Engineers during Verification and Validation events.
  • Mentor early career engineers to help them develop a solid systems engineering foundation.
  • Provide status updates to Cost Account Managers.
  • Provide inputs and support to the new business bid process.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers and Program Managers throughout the project lifecycle to ensure effective technical communication.
  • Collaborate with Program Chiefs to realize the product roadmap and long-term vision.
  • Cultivate a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and technical excellence.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

  • Solid foundation in System Engineering principles and practices
  • Experience as a Systems Engineer on complex Aerospace or Defense platforms
  • Experience with Requirements Management tools (DOORS, JAMA, etc)

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • ALM / Collaboration Tools (Confluence, Jira, etc.)
  • Configuration Management tools (Subversion, ClearCase etc.)
  • Experience with avionics systems, interfaces, and architecture
  • Pilot / Aircrew credentials (Military, Commercial, Private Pilot, etc.)
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering methods and tools (Cameo, Rhapsody, etc.)
