About The Position

As a Principal in Sustainable Energies at CPPIB America, Inc. in New York, NY, you will drive end-to-end execution of due diligence and negotiation of investment opportunities, portfolio company strategic and value creation initiatives, and internal strategic projects. You will serve as a team lead with oversight responsibility over deal and project teams, overseeing the evaluation of investment opportunities, leading the development of key investment theses, workplan development, allocation and oversight of workstreams and responsibilities, and project management. You will also oversee, direct, coach, mentor, and advise junior professionals in the energy midstream and upstream oil and gas industries, and on project-specific teams comprised of individuals across the Sustainable Energies Group. Your role will include leading key project workstreams, conducting commercial and financial due diligence, developing complex dynamic financial models, and preparing internal investment memoranda and recommendations. You will negotiate transaction and governance agreements, oversee ongoing financial and operating performance of portfolio companies, and source investment opportunities through preparing subsector and company primers. This position will supervise 1 employee.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field.
• 7 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate related work experience in investing and portfolio company management in the Energy sector.
• 7 years of experience in evaluating growth equity, joint venture, and control transactions with equity investments greater than $200 million.
• 7 years of experience in leading analyses and preparation of materials for portfolio company valuation.
• 7 years of experience in building company operating models and leveraged buyout models for investments in oil & gas and energy midstream sectors.
• 7 years of experience in developing new strategies in emerging areas of energy transition.
• 5 years of experience in sourcing deals and investment transactions in oil & gas and energy midstream sectors.
• 5 years of experience in managing complex asset platform investments.
• 5 years of experience in utilizing Microsoft Office 365, Capital IQ, SNL Financial, Workday, Protegent, and PeopleFluent.
• 5 years of experience in leading due diligence workstreams for new investments.
• 5 years of experience in developing investment memos and recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Drive end-to-end execution of due diligence and negotiation of investment opportunities.
• Oversee the evaluation of investment opportunities and lead development of key investment theses.
• Manage workplan development, allocation, and oversight of workstreams and responsibilities.
• Coach, mentor, and advise junior professionals in the energy midstream and upstream oil and gas industries.
• Lead and oversee key project workstreams including commercial and financial due diligence.
• Develop complex dynamic financial models and valuation analyses.
• Prepare and lead investment committee discussions.
• Negotiate transaction and governance agreements.
• Oversee ongoing financial and operating performance of portfolio companies.
• Source investment opportunities and prepare subsector and company primers.
• Conduct expert calls to support subsector and company research.

Benefits

• Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.
• Telecommuting permitted up to 1 day per week.
• International travel required up to 20%; Domestic travel required up to 30%.
• Pay Range: $280,000 to $320,000 per year.
