About The Position

The Principal, Sustainability Reporting at American Airlines plays a crucial role in leading the company's voluntary disclosures and preparing for upcoming environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting requirements. This position is integral to enhancing the company's existing reporting and shaping its disclosure strategy, collaborating with various departments and engaging with external stakeholders to ensure transparency and compliance with ESG standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in sustainability, environmental policy or similar area.
• 5+ years of work experience in corporate sustainability, ESG, corporate governance or a related field.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in public policy or prior experience in ESG-related policy areas.
• Knowledge of sustainability/ESG issues and related reporting trends, drivers, and frameworks.
• Familiarity with existing and pending ESG disclosure requirements such as SFDR, CSRD, ISSB, SEC.
• Experience in the airline or other hard-to-abate industries.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of American's annual Sustainability Report, focusing on strategic themes and aligning with best-in-class disclosure frameworks.
• Collaborate with Legal, Finance, Operations, and other business units to develop voluntary ESG disclosures responsive to investor feedback and mandatory disclosures.
• Develop internal controls for ESG data and metrics, coordinating with stakeholders including external and internal audit.
• Engage with investors, nonprofits, rating agencies, and other external stakeholders to support transparent disclosures and improve reporting.
• Implement technology solutions to capture relevant and accurate ESG data in collaboration with IT and other business units.
• Support ESG-related disclosures in public documents, including SEC filings.
• Enhance data management practices to promote accuracy of disclosures.
• Conduct ESG disclosure benchmarking across and outside of the commercial aviation industry.
