The Principal Structural Engineer will lead and perform structural analysis and prepare design calculations in conformance with engineering principles, industry standards of practice and applicable codes. This role will provide technical support and supervision within the structural engineering team based in our Denver, CO office.

  • Performs structural engineering design, including preparation, review, and checking of engineering calculations and design sketches for steel structures, equipment foundation, piling and concrete foundations for accuracy.
  • Supports the processes for checking, peer reviews, and incorporation of comments and findings.
  • Incorporates generally accepted engineering and design practices, techniques, and relevant regulatory requirements for the control, development, and application of deliverables per customer specifications.
  • Builds positive working relationships with external parties such as the customer, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Supervise, guide and mentor junior and intermediate designers and/or engineers.
  • Perform job site walk-downs to observe new construction, assess existing conditions or features for suitability to retrofit or change of use.
  • Participate in department/discipline functions related to quality control of deliverables.
  • Compile data and compute material quantities related to structural disciplines.
  • Ensures discipline technical work and team activities meet all health, safety, environmental, and security requirements.
  • Gathers data from multiple sources and prepares engineering studies, analyses, calculations, etc.
  • Determines technical issues, defines, and implements innovative alternate solutions.
  • Creates final documentation incorporating all relevant information and pursues customer approval.
  • Seeks input from knowledgeable sources and incorporates requirements into engineering design.
  • A minimum of 12 years' relevant experience in oil and gas, mining and metals, or related projects.
  • Civil Engineering experience with the ability to design grading plans, review pipeline horizontal directional drilling and create pipeline best management practices preferred but not required.
  • Good understanding of ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360 and IBC.
  • Working knowledge of PIP standards.
  • Familiarity with Staad, LPile, MathCAD, MS Office suite.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and Navisworks 3D. Basic knowledge of E3D preferred.
  • Willingness to perform job site visits, per project requirement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including engineering related vocabulary.
  • Must have a current Colorado PE license or a PE license in another state with the ability to obtain a Colorado PE license.
  • Master's degree is preferred but not required.
  • Multiple state licenses preferred.
  • SE license in at least one state preferred.
