Northrop Grumman's Defense Systems is seeking a Principal / Civil & Structural Design Engineer on the Infrastructure Design Team (INF). This role supports the design, modeling, and integration efforts for Civil/Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical elements for Launch Facilities, Launch Centers, or Test Facilities. This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase of the Sentinel program in support of the United States Air Force. This position will be located in Roy, UT .

Requirements

  • Engineer: Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM with 0 years of related experience
  • Principal Engineer: Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of related experience, or a PHD Degree in STEM with 0 years of experience
  • Both Level Qualifications: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Programs (SAP) clearance
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office tools - PowerPoint, Excel, Word
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in one or more of the following: Civil/Structural, Mechanical, electrical design on MILCON or major infrastructure/building projects
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, Power Point, and Engineering Scheduling tools and applications, and be able to use the Internet as an information gathering and communications tool.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering (PE) or Structural Engineering (SE) License with any state
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), International Building Code (IBC) Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and MIL-STD codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate complex concepts to both Government and corporate leadership
  • Proficiency with Revit, Siemens NX and Teamcenter
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance with the most recent investigation completed in the last 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating civil/structural systems design for the Sentinel infrastructure and facilities.
  • Subject matter expert supporting the design of high complexity civil/structural systems
  • Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.
  • Participate in project design/model reviews.
  • Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.
  • Support the delivery of facility design Technical Data Packages, Issue-for-Construction (IFC) packages, as-built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts.
  • Ensures design product quality by reviewing civil/structural designs and validating that current standards are applied.
  • Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues
  • Developing and presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of the technical baseline.
  • Identifying risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors and executing handling/mitigation/capture actions to reduce risk or realize opportunities.
  • Developing and maturing Civil/Structural facility designs that meet Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.
