Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Principal or Sr. Principal Data Scientist to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position requires on-site support located in Palmdale, CA where technology and teamwork come together. The selected candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's Manufacturing Engineering Team working in a collaborative environment while promoting a positive and proactive teamwork environment. Data Scientist job duties involve the following: Creates architectures/models, applications, statistical reporting, and data analysis to identify trends, drive process improvement, and implement scaled digital solutions. Analysis may have many applications such as to address a business issue or provide a competitive advantage for the organization. Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to develop solutions enabling data driven decisions, standardized digital procedures, and efficient execution.

Requirements

  • Basic Qualifications for Principal Data Scientist: Bachelor's degree with 4 years of technical and/or engineering experience, Master's degree with 3 years of engineering experience, OR PhD with 0 years of experience
  • Strong understanding of SQL, Python
  • Experience in data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques
  • Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering Concepts/Theory and Production Operations
  • Working knowledge of databases (SQL Server, AWS Databases (DynamoDB, RDS, or similar)) and schema
  • Experience with dashboarding frameworks (Plotly Dash, Panel, Streamlit, Tableau, etc.)
  • Experience with modeling and normalizing complex data
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top-Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
  • Ability to work 1st shift "5:00am-3:30pm" or any work schedule (times may vary)
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time at a workstation on a computer or similar device for up to 10 hours / duration of shift. Occasional extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling
  • Ability to travel at least 25% to different sites
  • Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Data Scientist: Bachelor's degree with 8 years of engineering experience, Master's degree with 6 years of engineering experience, OR PhD with 4 years of engineering experience
  • Strong understanding of SQL, Python

  • Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering Concepts/Theory and Production Operations

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering/Computer Science/Data Science/Statistics
  • Current and active Secret or Top-Secret clearance preferred
  • Experience designing solution architecture
  • Hands-on experience with core Python data science tools (Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciKit-Learn, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning libraries and applications in the manufacturing domain (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with time series analysis and sequence modeling
  • Experience with manu Experience developing tools to improve efficiency, eliminate repetitive tasks, and implement new analysis tools/techniques.
