About The Position

We are looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer to join Finance Retail Enablement (FRE) Accounts Payable (AP) Engineering team. This hands-on role requires exceptional architecture acumen, coding skills, a passion for technology and engineering excellence, and the ability to guide and mentor a large team of engineers. You will play a pivotal role in defining and maintaining our technical architecture, ensuring alignment with business goals and scalability requirements. About Team: We are the EBS Disputes & Exceptions Management Engineering group. Our mission is to enable seamless, accurate, and efficient processes within Walmart's Finance Tech ecosystem by managing disputes and exceptions with timely resolution & precision. We design and maintain tools that empower internal teams and external suppliers to resolve payment discrepancies quickly and effectively, leveraging automation to minimize manual effort and ensure smooth collaboration. Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience in software development and solution architecture focused on building large scale complex distributed systems.
  • Must have experience leading teams in a solution architect role, leading multiple teams to deliver complex systems.
  • Strong experience with distributed system design, multi-tenant platform, microservices, asynchronous design patterns, cloud native design, and high-availability architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools, to deliver business value and developer productivity.
  • Experience working with multiple tech stack – Java, Python, React, Nodejs, k8s, Spring framework, Kafka, AI frameworks, etc.
  • Experience with monitoring tech – Splunk, Open Observe, Grafana, Prometheus, APM.
  • Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to balance conflicting interests in a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with CICD pipelines to orchestrate zero-click deployments.
  • Passion for staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in solution design, architecture and development.
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of our technical architecture, aligning it with business goals and scalability requirements.
  • Design and deploy scalable, performant, secure, cloud-native systems that align with business goals.
  • Establish and guide engineers to adopt engineering best practices, conduct/lead design & code reviews, and ensure alignment with the overall FRE Architecture vision.
  • Foster a culture of learning and innovation through hands-on technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Leverage modern ML/AI/GenAI tools to design scalable and intelligent systems.
  • Maintain and drive a high bar on Operational Excellence.
  • Develop comprehensive technical documentation (including ADRs) and presentations to clearly communicate architectural decisions and design options.
  • Work closely with Program, Product, Business, and Design partners to plan work, ensuring that engineering tech priorities are also included.
  • Directs root cause analysis of critical business and production issues.
