About The Position

Eligibility team is delivering world-class technology solutions and services making a profound impact at every level of customer pre and post purchase journey at Walmart. As a key part of Walmart Global Tech, our teams set the bar for operational excellence and leverage emerging technology to support millions of customers, associates, and stakeholders worldwide. Eligibility team provides the path , customer experience, speed, cross border , substitutions eligibility across pre-purchase and post purchase of customer journey. Eligibility team also defines the geo and cross border restrictions of items when customer place and order. Our Team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Software Engineer. In this individual contributor role, you are expected to be the technical subject matter expert, mentor, and industry leader for creating highly performant, scalable backend applications that exceed customer and business needs. You need to possess outstanding development experience in Java, Spring boot, Microservices , sql/nosql DB with a deep passion for design and customer experience. Also, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our products and systems with responsibilities including leading the creation and maintenance of high-quality code, aligning it with business goals and scalability requirements, and architecting complex software systems to ensure performance, security, and scalability needs are met. Additionally, the role involves providing hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to software engineers, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, and establishing and enforcing coding standards through thorough code reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science with minimum 12 years of Backend stack programming experience in Java, Spring boot and Microservices.
  • 8 years of experience in systems design, algorithms, and distributed systems.
  • Deep knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture and experience in designing and implementing RESTFUL Web Services.
  • Solid design and coding skills in Java and/or Spring / micronaut framework with spring project reactor and JVM internals (concurrency, multi-threading).
  • Strong computer science knowledge in algorithms, data structures, database concepts and SQL technologies.
  • Experience with storage technologies such as Cosmos DB, Elastic Search, GCP, Cassandra, Spark and Kafka are good to have.
  • Cloud Development experience (GCP or Azure)
  • Experience in building scalable/highly available distributed systems in production.
  • Understanding stream processing with knowledge on Kafka.
  • Knowledge of Software Engineering best practices with experience on implementing CI/CD, Log aggregation/Monitoring/alerting for production system.
  • Very good expertise in production support related activities (issue identification, resolution)
  • General understanding of software development lifecycle from planning to deployment.
  • Working experience with multithreading, data structures, algorithms and design patterns
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly, willingness to learn new and emerging Gen AI technologies
  • A constant desire to improve, learn more, and take things to the next level, and a passion for adopting the latest features in the technologies that we leverage.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deliver software products that meet business goals and user needs
  • Mentoring and guiding junior engineers in best practices, design patterns, and development methodologies
  • Work in a highly performing agile team environment - sharing innovative ideas and working collaboratively across teams.
  • Work with talented engineers and product visionaries to contribute to the vision and design of eligibility & restrictions platform. You also get to collaborate with team members to develop best practices and client requirements for the software.
  • You will be required to review design and code, provide technical solutions to team for complex requirements
  • Troubleshooting coding problems quickly and efficiently will offer you a chance to grow your skills in a high-pace, high-impact environment.
  • Software security is of prime importance and by developing programs that monitor sharing of private information, you will be able to add tremendous credibility to your work
  • Interact with Walmart engineering teams across geographies to leverage expertise and contribute to the tech community.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on applications to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Measure and improve product performance, Operational performance and Portfolio performance using metrics/KPIs.
  • Learn new and changing technologies and adapt to ensure best software practices and standards.
  • You will be a disruptive thinker who can lead software innovations
