Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings. Azure SQL DB Control Plane has bold vision. We are looking for a passionate, motivated and experienced Principal Software Engineer with design and leadership skills to join the team. You will have an opportunity to shape and build the next generation of Control Plane platform designed for 100x customer and request volume growth, create new technology that enables placement and optimal capacity utilization within a cluster and a region, design and implement solutions for management at massive scale for large customers, mine insights from telemetry and behavior of large distributed systems, learn and contribute to design of service software stack, datacenter design and network topology. Working with a team in a distributed system, your work will influence the technical direction of the Azure SQL DB service architecture and shape the platform across the entire Azure Cloud ecosystem The group fosters a diverse and inclusive work culture that prioritizes people at all times. Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience with distributed systems.
• 3+ years of experience with cloud platforms.
• Design, implementation and communication skills with experience in SQL.
• Experience in Cloud service offerings.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex projects across high-performing engineering teams is preferred.

Responsibilities

• ​​Design, implement, deploy, and operate services, microservices and components.
• Work across team and organizational boundaries to drive clarity and alignment in fast paced environment. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements and solutions.
• Develop a cross-cutting technical direction and strategic planning for product development, feature enhancement and innovation in alignment with the business objectives.
• Mentor and grow members of the team; partner with Program Management, architects, and leaders to define requirements, scope projects and validate solutions.
• Release features on time, with high quality, meeting functional, performance, scalability, and compliance requirements.
• Research and adopt modern technology to improve quality of the service, increase customer value or reduce operating cost.
• Participate in on-call rotation for the team.​
