The Hartford's Employee Benefits Organization is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead AI-enabled service transformation. This role sets technical vision, evaluates future solutions, and mentors engineers to ensure scalable, cloud-native architectures and successful delivery of complex projects. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in GCP and AWS, microservices, event-driven architecture, and Agentic AI capabilities for developer productivity and workflow automation.

Requirements

  • 10+ years as Senior Software Engineer or 2+ years as Principal Engineer in large-scale transformation programs.
  • 5+ years of direct experience with GCP and/or AWS; strong knowledge of multi-cloud ecosystems.
  • Expertise in scalable cloud solutions using GenAI, machine learning, and advanced analytics.
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps and scaled agile methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the insurance industry.
  • Certifications: Google Professional Cloud Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Proficiency in microservices, API management (Swagger, Apigee, AWS API Gateway), and event-driven architecture (Kafka, Kinesis).
  • Hands-on experience with Agentic AI frameworks (LangChain, CrewAI, LangGraph).
  • Skills in prompt engineering and instruction design.
  • Knowledge of vector databases, knowledge graphs, and hybrid memory systems.
  • Familiarity with observability tools (Splunk, Dynatrace) and secure deployment practices.
  • Expertise in GenAI-driven test automation and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker/OpenShift).
  • Strategic thinking and ethical AI governance.
