About The Position

As a Principal Engineer on Walmart's Payroll Technology team, you'll be the lead engineer for the world's largest payroll implementation which ensures 2 million associates get paid correctly, on time, every time. You will bring years of payroll domain expertise to simplify operations of the Mainframe-based system, including leading teams of vendors who will keep the system compliant with all relevant federal/state/local payroll rules and regulations. You will also bring experience operating Tier-0 mission critical applications and serve as a force multiplier for the team. You will also bring generalist technical skills that will make you a key contributor to ongoing initiatives to modernize Walmart's payroll system and be a force multiplier for the payroll technology team. Requirements

At least 8+ years of relevant industry experience in building and operating Mainframe-based Tier-0 applications.
Subject matter expertise in payroll domain.
Demonstrated experience in leading projects across in-house as well as vendor teams.
Demonstrated end-to-end ownership from inception to launch of multiple complex and ambiguous projects.
Effective problem-solving skills, ability to make design tradeoffs, balancing the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions.
Expertise with Relational and/or NoSQL Databases and use of Cloud Services.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, including consensus building, conflict resolution, influence and persuasion skills.
Mentoring/coaching junior engineers in technical problem solving and career advancement.
Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, development and launch of all changes to Walmart's payroll system.
Collaborate with cross functional teams including business, data science, product and other software engineers to understand the business problem, review business requirements, draft technical requirements, scope, design, develop, test, and deploy solutions.
Be the role model and exemplary practitioner in the team, and establish mechanisms (design reviews, code reviews, OE reviews, root cause analysis, etc.) to ensure high quality, high availability, scalable and performant systems are delivered.
Advocate the use of latest technology and system integration patterns, cutting across team boundaries.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
Additional compensation for certain positions may also include : - Stock
