About The Position

We're looking for a talented, all-rounder Principal, Software Engineer to join our Bentonville, Arkansas-based team. You'll help architect and deliver solutions across web and mobile platforms, supporting internal tools that directly impact Walmart associates. The ideal candidate has deep experience in solution design, mobile app development and deployment, system integrations, and cloud platforms. The Associate Experience & Digital Transformation (AEDT) team is responsible for productivity, collaboration, and AI/agentic solutions that help associates at Walmart work better, faster, and smarter. Requirements

  • 7-10+ years designing scalable mobile and web apps (mono-repos, container apps, mini-app structures, and app deployment methodologies)
  • Hands-on experience with microservices, API design, telemetry, observability, automated CI/CD, and test suites
  • Proficiency in full stack development with an emphasis on mobile development: ReactNative, iOS/Swift, Java, Javascript, React, Spring Boot, Node.js, and Angular
  • Strong architectural instincts and a track record of translating complex needs into practical solutions
  • Experience leading technical delivery without direct people management - mentoring, reviewing, unblocking, and being a force multiplier for the team
  • Collaborative spirit and communication skills that bring cross-functional teams together
  • A bias for action, fast iteration, and continuous improvement
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and5 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • The ideal candidate would have knowledge of accessibility best practices and join us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart's accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Design modular, extensible mobile and web architectures that scale including AI-Powered features and user-facing agents.
  • Lead solution delivery from concept through deployment including writing production code alongside the team
  • Guide a team of engineers through technical instruction, support, and mentorship
  • Define and manage engineering standards and architectural guardrails for long-term success
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, platform engineers, UX designers, and stakeholders
  • Continuously identify and implement ways to modernize and improve how we build
  • Scale our tools, systems, and team practices to meet growing product demand
