The Application Identities Platform Team is part of Microsoft Entra, formerly Azure Active Directory. Entra provides the identity foundation for Microsoft 365, Azure, and many software companies that build secure cloud services. Our team focuses on how applications and intelligent agents are identified, trusted, and authorized across the cloud. As software becomes more AI driven and increasingly autonomous, identity is a critical security control. We are investing in creating secure and least-privileged driven identity platform for agents that help prevent misuse while enabling innovation. Our work enables developers, administrators, and platforms to make smarter security choices with less manual effort, even as systems operate at massive scale. We solve complex problems where security, reliability, and scale are essential. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer who can help architect and deliver high quality, high scale cloud services that support next generation identity and security scenarios. You will build foundational capabilities that govern how both human operated and AI driven applications securely access resources. You will collaborate across identity and security teams, influence technical direction, and help shape the future of secure AI and identity at Microsoft.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in cloud services or distributed systems.
• Experience in architecting and designing complex software systems or services.
• Experience in leading v-teams towards delivering complex projects.
• Coding skills in C#, Java, or another object-oriented language and the ability to transfer those skills to other engineers.
• Communication, collaboration, problem-solving skills, and ability to drive changes across multiple organizations.
• Passion for learning new technologies and domains, and for delivering high-quality software that makes a difference.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a wide and deep knowledge of our platform and the space, recognize problems, Identity opportunities, design solutions.
• Work closely with customers and partners to understand their requirements and scenarios and effectively lead towards delivering the necessary solutions.
• Define the architectural direction for our team to deliver such solutions and adjust and change course as needed when facing challenges.
• Collaborate with other engineers, program managers, and designers across the Entra organization and beyond to deliver end-to-end experiences that delight our customers and users.
• Drive innovation and quality in our engineering processes and practices, and foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and learning.
• Coach and mentor more junior engineers and help us build a high-performing engineering team.
