Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer (Tools) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This role, based in Colorado Springs, CO, is vital in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. Relocation assistance is not offered for this position, and the role requires on-site presence with no remote options. The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial element of the Missile Defense System. It provides a key operational platform that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively manage networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability that delivers an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. Furthermore, C2BMC is an essential part of all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the missile defense system's current and future capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a PhD.
  • 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
  • Possess a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application.

Nice To Haves

  • Background experience in backend software engineering, especially with Java or MATLAB.
  • Experience in maintaining and adding features to frameworks and similar systems.
  • Experience with automation and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, collaborative team environments.
  • Experience with Java, especially with Swing and using reflection within the language.
  • Familiarity with Eclipse or VSCode as IDEs.
  • Experience with Bash/Unix, Python, and MATLAB.
  • Experience with Agile workflows.
  • Familiar with Jira and Confluence interfaces.
  • Knowledge of using Microsoft Teams and Mattermost.
  • Experience with Git and GitLab.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing features and developing a new backend system called Forge from scratch.
  • Supporting and maintaining C2BMC-Global's CI/CD pipeline.
  • Managing GitLab merge requests.
  • Supporting other teams with tool-related problems and bugs.
  • Addressing high-priority issues for the team.
