About The Position

Our Messaging and Flight Ops Engineering team is responsible for developing cutting-edge services and infrastructures to ensure you, your family, your friends, and passengers around the globe arrive at their destination on time. Site Reliability Engineers at Collins are responsible for service availability, performance, monitoring, incident response, and capacity planning. You should be experienced in finding problems in software and writing code to fix them. The right candidate has worked on scalable AWS environments for publicly available websites. We're searching for someone who enjoys collaborating with a cross-functional team to develop real-world solutions and positive user experiences for every interaction.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • U.S. Person - Job requires access to ITAR or 600/500-series EAR information or hardware.
  • Flexibility to be available for team meetings as early as 9:00 AM Eastern.
  • Software engineering background or a good level of coding skills in an OO language (with either .NET or Python being advantageous).
  • Experience managing AWS ECS clusters and working with SQL based databases like PostgreSQL and RabbitMQ.
  • Experience with Bash and/or Powershell scripting.
  • Experience with system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning for AWS & CloudFormation.
  • Experience with Docker containerization & Git.

Nice To Haves

  • Dual background in both systems infrastructure and software engineering.
  • Experience with reporting and monitoring using industry standard tools.
  • Experience with Azure Dev Ops and Pulumi.
  • Experience with SCRUM and Scaled Agile Framework.
  • Desire to automate as much as possible and proficiency with automation tools.
  • Understanding of network segmentation, routing and VPNs.
  • Security knowledge to work with cyber teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own one or more AWS hosted infrastructures delivering products to our commercial customers in a B2B model.
  • Manage, enhance, and troubleshoot AWS environments, ensuring adherence to best practices for continuous integration and deployment.
  • Deliver using an agile pattern with customers, focusing on continuous testing and release.
  • Influence team members in using the right AWS tools to scale features.
  • Drive the migration of a significant multi-tenant Connected Aviation web application from on-premise to AWS cloud.
  • Be part of the on-call roster supporting critical service incidents.
