About The Position

The Biogen Acute Neurology Research Unit seeks a highly motivated and keen translational biologist with background in ischemic stroke and/or epilepsy to join in our mission to deliver novel, impactful therapies to patients with acute brain injuries, including stroke, traumatic brain injury and episodic attacks such as epilepsy, which are responsible for massive burdens of long-term neurologic disability. The individual’s primary responsibility is to oversee in vivo modeling platforms, deploying translational biomarkers to advance target validation and drug discovery and development into the clinic, through the design and execution of bench science research internally at Biogen and through management of external collaborations. The individual is expected to function as a leader in in vivo platform development, optimization and use, drawing on pertinent literature, innovating, and fostering collaborations to maximize synergies and cross-disciplinary approaches to advance the studies.   • A knowledge of concepts of neurological diseases and mechanisms in the fields of ischemic stroke and/or epilepsy.
  • Excellent technical skills with respect to in vivo modeling, a track record of hypothesis-driven experimentation and first or last author pu

Responsibilities

  • Integrating the application of in vivo modeling platforms into our target identification, validation and prioritization process
  • In vivo leader for integrating translational endpoints and biomarkers
  • Oversight of internal staff executing on modelling platforms tailored to address project strategy and priorities, and management of collaborative workplans with internal and/or external investigators
  • Hypothesis generation and advancement of novel targets/ exploratory programs through skilled experimentation: independent experimental design, execution and analysis.
  • Development and delivery of effective presentations; ability to defend work. Preparation of research project reports, invention disclosures and manuscripts yielding high-quality publications
