About the position

Applied Signal Technology (AST) is seeking a Principal Reverse Engineer who is dedicated to excellence and has a passion for contributing to a team that enhances national security and improves global safety. This role is primarily on-site at our facility located at 160 North Riverview Drive, Anaheim, CA, with some flexibility at the discretion of the hiring manager. The successful candidate will be involved in providing trusted strategic and tactical SIGINT solutions that protect the interests of the U.S. and its allies. AST specializes in high-capacity broadband communications, signal processing and analysis, tactical SIGINT, and wireless communications, which continuously challenges our engineers to solve complex problems and make the world a safer place. In this position, you will assist with vulnerability analysis of embedded hardware and networks. You will work closely with customers, senior management, program managers, and senior VR/RE experts to thoroughly understand customer objectives and develop effective solutions. Additionally, you may lead or participate in Research and Development projects that explore advanced technologies. The role may require travel of up to 25%. Responsibilities

  • Assist with vulnerability analysis of embedded hardware and networks.
  • Work closely with customers and senior management to understand objectives and develop solutions.
  • Lead or participate in Research and Development projects focused on advanced technology exploration.
  • Utilize reverse engineering tools to analyze embedded architectures and systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline technical staff to resolve complex problems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of practical experience in reverse engineering and vulnerability research.
  • Experience developing cyber network operations and exploit tools.
  • Proficiency in reverse engineering tools such as Ghidra, IDA Pro, Binary Ninja, or Radare.
  • Experience with embedded architectures including ARM, x86/64, MIPS, or PPC.
  • Technical skills in binary analysis, malware, protocol analysis, and large-scale network systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with C++/Python for fuzzer development.
  • Understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP stacks and routing protocols.
  • Experience with both offensive and defensive cyber tools.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, including communications and device management.
  • Master of Science (MS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering preferred.
