About The Position

The Principal Researcher in Quality Improvement and Learning Systems at the American Institutes for Research (AIR) will lead efforts to enhance healthcare quality, costs, and access through rigorous research and evaluation. This role involves applying quality improvement methodologies, managing complex projects, and engaging stakeholders in learning initiatives. The position supports AIR's mission to create a more equitable world by leveraging evidence-based strategies and fostering collaboration among diverse teams of experts.

Requirements

  • PhD with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with a minimum of 11 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience managing or facilitating learning networks using online tools and resources.
  • Experience applying evidence-based implementation strategies to advance healthcare quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects and teams, with strong project management and staff supervision skills.
  • Experience in quality improvement methods/tools (e.g., Rapid cycle learning, Lean, PDSA).
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and human-centered design.
  • Knowledge and experience with healthcare learning collaboratives.
  • Knowledge of social media strategy and digital library curation.
  • Experience working in a grant or contract-funded environment is preferred.

  • Experience in healthcare policy analysis.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis software.
  • Experience in public health research.

Responsibilities

  • Apply quality improvement and performance methods including PDSA cycles, TQM, RCI, Six Sigma, and Lean to support stakeholder needs.
  • Utilize evidence-based implementation strategies to support local and national improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and respond to technical assistance needs of stakeholders.
  • Manage fast-paced projects of moderate to high complexity, including effective budget and quality management.
  • Oversee an online collaboration space to support stakeholders.
  • Design strategies and communications to engage stakeholders in a virtual environment.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and provide work direction to project staff and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Organize online resources for stakeholder access and use.
  • Use data to monitor the effectiveness of the online collaboration space.
  • Manage client expectations on a project or strategic level, including handling escalations.
  • Create action plans to implement technical assistance solutions.
  • Support learning activities such as webinars and the development of written tools and resources.
  • Assist in new business development efforts, including proposal writing.
