About The Position

Collins Aerospace is seeking a skilled Senior Reliability & Safety Engineer to join our Reliability & Safety (R&S) Team located in Chula Vista, California. As an essential component of our Nacelle engineering lifecycle, our Reliability and Safety Team is responsible for ensuring safety compliance through systematic application of Reliability, System Safety, Lightning Safety and Fire Safety principles to all products under Collins Aerospace, Advanced Structures – Aerostructures portfolio. You are a seasoned professional who not only excels in engineering management techniques but also thrives in fostering collaborative relationships and driving continuous improvements. You have a proven track record in establishing and executing reliability and system safety programs from design inception through certification and sustainment for commercial and/or military aviation applications. The position is working onsite at our Chula Vista California site Relocation assistance is available

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • Experience in executing commercial or military aviation Reliability, Maintainability, and System Safety Assessments to support aircraft certification by aviation authorities.
  • Experience generating relevant safety Management of Change (MoC) with engineering teams (such as Stress and Thermal)
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in the Aerospace Industry
  • Degree in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering
  • American Society for Quality – Certified Reliability Engineer (ASQ-CRE) preferred
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement (CI) tools and processes: Lean, Six Sigma, ACE or CORE, demonstrating proficiency in fostering process maturity and adept use of root cause corrective action methodologies and tools
  • Statistical background to analyze and interpret results
  • Experience in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Fault Tree Analysis (CAFTA) or equivalent
  • Experience performing activities in support of Maintenance Steering Group 3 (MSG-3)
  • Experience with commercial aircraft integrated powerplant subsystems, specifically nacelle and thrust reverser
  • Experience with interpretation of safety regulations for Commercial and/or Military Aviation applications

Responsibilities

  • Perform as an individual contributor in the subject areas of Reliability, Maintainability, and System Safety
  • Manage safety requirements flown down by the customers and recommend appropriate means of compliance (MoC)
  • Support various design reviews throughout nacelle product development lifecycle to ensure adequate Reliability, Maintainability, and System Safety considerations in accordance with SAE ARP4754, ARP4761, or equivalent MIL-STDs
  • Generate applicable Reliability and System Safety artifacts such as Reliability Prediction Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects (Criticality) Analysis (FMEA/FMECA) at a component and functional level, System Safety Assessment (SSA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Common Mode Analysis (CMA), etc., in accordance with SAE ARP4761 or equivalent MIL-STDs
  • Generate applicable artifacts in support of Maintenance Steering Group 3 (MSG-3) such as Maintenance Significant Item (MSI), Structural Significant Item (SSI), and Zonal Analysis.
  • Coordinate activities leading to implementation of preventive and corrective maintenance tasks
  • Support product safety management system by performing safety risk analyses (Continued Airworthiness Assessment Methodology in accordance with FAA Advisory Circular 39-8 and/or Numeric Risk Assessment Methodology)
  • Perform trade studies to guide design solutions for next generation nacelle products to include but not limited to Ice Protection and Thrust Reverser
  • Travel requirement: 10% to support operational needs and collaboration efforts.
