As a Principal R D Engineer/Scientist here at Honeywell, you will play a crucial role in driving innovation and leading research and development initiatives within the Energy & Sustainability Solutions (ESS) Strategic Business Group (SBG). You will be responsible for developing and executing the R D vision and strategy aligned with Honeywell's business goals. This role requires a deep understanding of R D processes, strong technical expertise, and the ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers and scientists. You will report directly to our R D Director and you'll work out of our Buffalo, NY location on a hybrid work schedule. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by driving innovation, managing technology development, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects that address the world's most critical energy and sustainability challenges.

  • Serve as a technical thought leader, influencing internal roadmaps and external collaborations in battery materials development while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to integrate R D efforts into the company's overall strategic plan by generating regular reports, summarizing key achievements, challenges, and future plans.
  • Lead the development and optimization of advanced battery materials with a focus on scalability and commercial viability.
  • Oversee the full portfolio of R D projects, ensuring alignment between strategic priorities and early-stage innovation to meet industry needs and market trends.
  • Work cross-functionally with R D, engineering, and business teams to accelerate time-to-market for new technologies.
  • Stay ahead of emerging trends in battery chemistry and manufacturing, providing insights into competitive landscapes and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent Honeywell at technical conferences, industry consortia, and customer engagements, reinforcing our position as a leader in battery materials innovation.
  • B.S. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 8+ years of experience in battery materials research and development projects within the energy, sustainability, or related field.
  • Proven track record of development and commercialization of battery materials for advanced energy storage applications, with multiple products successfully scaled and adopted in the market.
  • Established industry network, including connections with EV OEMs, battery manufacturers, and material suppliers.
  • Deep expertise in electrochemical characterization, failure analysis, and materials discovery for energy storage applications.
  • Strong project leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional R D teams and external collaborations.
  • Ability to translate scientific insights into business impact, aligning research efforts with commercial strategy.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging both technical and executive audiences.
  • Advanced (M.S. or PhD) degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, or another related field.
  • Solid understanding of energy storage materials synthesis or scale-up processing.
  • Understanding of AI/ML modeling towards battery materials design and optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technology commercialization is a plus.
