About The Position

The Principal Public Health Promotion Specialist is responsible for planning, supervising, and reviewing the daily functions and activities of assigned public health promotion areas. This role involves researching and evaluating programs, ensuring their effectiveness, and overseeing their utilization. The specialist will work under general supervision, exercising independent judgment and initiative, while also supervising a team of professional, technical, and clerical personnel.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of public health principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge in chronic and communicable disease epidemiology.
  • Skills in developing, implementing, and evaluating public health promotion programs.
  • Ability to make written and oral presentations about public health promotion programs.
  • Experience in planning, supervising, and reviewing the work of a professional staff.
  • Ability to conduct and report public health promotion research projects.
  • Ability to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of public health programs.
  • Experience in preparing grant applications and ensuring compliance with grant provisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, and review daily functions and activities of assigned public health promotion areas.
  • Research and evaluate public health promotion programs for effectiveness and utilization.
  • Prepare grant applications and ensure adherence to grant agreements.
  • Approve plans for public health promotion materials as part of statewide campaigns.
  • Assist community agencies and groups in understanding and developing public health promotion programs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of public health promotion programs and recommend modifications.
  • Review and recommend allocation of fiscal resources for public health promotion programs.
  • Prepare and review reports related to program functions and objectives.
  • Coordinate planning of conferences, meetings, and educational campaigns.
  • Identify funding sources for public health promotion projects and prepare applications.
  • Conduct public health promotion research and publish results in professional journals.
  • Conduct statistical analyses of planned activities in accordance with scientific principles.
  • Represent the Department of Health at local, regional, and national meetings.
