The Principal Project Engineer, Remediation is responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing the infrastructure, industrial services, processing and packaging projects for a large-scale supply chain transformation program in Zeeland, MI (Project Vivid). The project scopes are part of a multi-story manufacturing plant. This role involves ensuring that projects are properly scoped to meet stakeholder requirements, completed on time, within budget, and to the required food safety and quality standards. The Project Engineer works closely with other engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver successful solutions.

  • Lead with excellence the design, development, and execution of capital projects while ensuring designs meet required regulatory, safety, environmental, and industry standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Work closely with Project teams and cross functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Technical Services, and Supply Chain) to align project scopes and execution with overall business objectives and ensure seamless integration into production.
  • Responsibilities include documentation management and an understanding of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) as well of implementation of FDA standards.
  • Creation and management of invoices, cash flows, and change requests within the document control systems.
  • Responsible for the success of the execution of capital projects, including but not limited to the commissioning, validation, and financial and change control close-out.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed project plans, including shutdown requirements, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Lead option development and analysis efforts. Work in partnership with engineering and construction partner firms to execute all phases of execution including commissioning and validation.
  • Lead cross functional drawing/equipment reviews and field verifications to ensure capital project deliverables interferences, access requirements, process/personnel safety requirements.
  • Anticipate and mitigate potential design and execution risks associated with capital projects.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including presentations, reports, drawings, specifications, and workflow forms and spreadsheet.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in capital project management.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical).
  • 10+ years relevant engineering experience in FDA-regulated environment (must include 3-5+ years of capital project management).
  • Understanding of FDA, GMP, and ISO guidelines.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of building design and construction methods, materials, and regulations.
