About The Position

The Principal Scheduler is responsible for leading the development, maintenance, and analysis of complex project schedules across transmission and distribution portfolios. This role ensures schedule integrity, supports strategic planning, and provides critical insights to project teams and executive leadership. The Principal Scheduler also mentors less experienced schedulers and drives continuous improvement in scheduling practices and tools. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Economics, Project Management or other relevant technical field and 7-10 years of industry/related experience. Or in lieu of bachelor's degree, 9-12 years of relevant industry/related experience
  • Advanced ability to build a schedule from an estimate, Project Diagram or verbal Scope of Work.
  • Excellent analytical skills: demonstrated financial/quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage large capital construction portfolios
  • Ability to frame ambiguous issues and structure appropriate analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to apply strategic and critical thinking to problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work productively with diverse teams
  • Solid written and oral communication skills, ability to translate analysis into key messages and develop story line associated with project analysis
  • Ability to work independently to advance assignments and developing ability to drive efforts to completion
  • Advanced skills in schedule development, logic analysis, global data management, and database administration
  • Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, for executive dashboards and performance tracking

Nice To Haves

  • Prior project scheduling experience in electric / gas transmission, distribution, and substation industry
  • Scheduling Certification (PMI-SP, AACEI)
  • Knowledge of or experience with Primavera (P6) scheduling software

Responsibilities

  • Lead scheduling for complex and high-value projects, including PJM and regulatory-driven initiatives for phase 1, 2, and 3.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define schedule scope, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Ensure alignment of schedules with project execution plans, resource availability, and contractual obligations.
  • Develop and maintain integrated master project schedules using Primavera (P6) or equivalent tools and ensure proper setup in P6 including calendars, WBS, and activity coding.
  • Perform schedule analyses like critical path, float, and what-if to evaluate project status and predict completion.
  • Monitor schedule performance metrics and trends to provide early warnings of potential delays.
  • Integrate cost and resource data to support earned value management (EVM) and performance reporting.
  • Support Contractor Resource Forecast Reports (CFR), Milestone Tracking, and EV metrics.
  • Utilize historical data and project estimates to validate durations and resource assignments.
  • Support schedule quality assurance and continuous improvement through peer review of schedules for logic integrity, float, lag, and coding accuracy.
  • Ensure the use of standardized scheduling templates and logic structures and collaborate with PMO and Estimating teams to align schedule logic with cost and productivity assumptions.
  • Lead re-baselining efforts when major milestone shifts occur.
  • Support lessons-learned workshops and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support training and onboarding of new hires in scheduling processes and steps.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior schedulers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment
  • Create and use scheduling methods that enable continuous improvement through analysis and trend monitoring.
  • Update and maintain project scheduling documentation to reflect the latest methodologies, tools, and industry best practices, ensuring consistency and compliance.
  • Ensure project schedules comply with industry standards, management models, and contractual requirements.
  • Provide documentation to support audits and regulatory requests.
  • Coordinate with PMs, LREs, and CMs for monthly updates and schedule reviews.
  • Participate in challenge meetings and provide schedule impact analysis for scope changes
  • Participate in job walk-downs in the field.
  • Collaborate with other OpCos to align schedules, share data, and ensure cross-organizational dependencies are accurately reflected and managed
